But there are a great number of simple and practical things that can be done to reduce the risk.
See the page 'Am I or the person I'm concerned about at risk' for specific suggestions linked to specific risk factors.
There are people who can help, GP's,Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, health visitors, district nurses or Local Social Services. Ask any of these people for help to:
Arrange for safety changes to be made to the home
Develop a system for checking on the vulnerable person
Develop coping skills to build confidence
Improve physical fitness especially balance, strength, co-ordination and flexibility
Fit an alarm system to call for help - contact your local Social Services, Age Concern or Carrick Lifeline (in Cornwall)
See the page 'What help is available in Cornwall' for contact details for services in Cornwall
Know the danger signs
Raise awareness of the risks
Seek help to make changes
Everyone can help from friends and family, health professionals and agencies who have contact with those at risk
This website aims to provide information for all those who are concerned with the issues around falls
